Historical City Walk: Queer in Copenhagen (in English)
Discover what it was like to live on the fringes of society over the past 1,000 years. Stroll through the old city and learn about queer pioneers who challenged the church, laws, and cultural norms to live authentically. The walk includes Magstræde, with stories about prostitution in Copenhagen, and takes us past Nikolaj Church, where two women were able to marry in the 18th century! You'll also hear how an innocent date escalated into a major public scandal, opening the eyes of Copenhagen society to homosexuality. Visit the beautiful Nyhavn and meet Lili Elbe and Gerda Wegener, whose art and love story shocked the citizens in the 1930s.
The city walk takes you through history and explores what it means to be queer in Copenhagen.
